Well, are you sure that the server you are trying to add really is an ntp
server? Do you have your network set up so that you can contact it?
The configuration file is /etc/ntp.conf
Put a line like (or a few lines like that--
pool.ntp.org
resolves to new
servers each time so multiple lines is OK.
If you are not in N Am, use the pool servers for your country-

And that should be it. Then restart ntp
service ntpd restart
as root.
