Not really. "Syncing" e-mail with a desktop is a holdover from the days
when PPCs weren't typically "connected" to the internet. The theory was
you'd sync your e-mails when the device was docked, read and reply while
offline, then "upload" the replies the next time you docked.

In these connected days, the "Outlook" account is generally used for an
Exchange Server account.
