[Creator Suite] General Troubleshooting

1. Make sure there is no other CD-burning software application on the system, including other versions of ECDC, if there is, uninstall all CD-burning software and reinstall just the ECDC Basic software.

2. For 95/98/ME there are conflicting drivers that could cause issues. Make sure they read you their iosubsys; don’t just have them search for these drivers. Having them read it can tell you things they have omitted about their system.

The following drivers are known to cause conflicts with the ECDC software and can be renamed to eliminate them. Be sure to let the customer know that you may be disabling a driver required by another application.

CD_READ.VXD - this is an Iomega tools driver and if the customer has this program, you may want to have them temporarily uninstall it instead of renaming this driver.

DRVWPPQT.VXD - this driver is for tape backup programs, if the customer has a tape backup application, you may want to temporarily uninstall it.

DRVWQ117.VXD - same as above.

DRVWCDB.VXD - same as above.

SCSI1HLP.VXD - this is a windows file and can be renamed without repercussions.

ATAPCHNG.VXD - if customer doesn’t have an IDE CD changer, same as above.

TORISAN3.VXD - if customer doesn’t have a Torisan-3 CD changer, same as above.

NECATAPI.VXD – if customer doesn’t have an NEC cd-rom or floppy, same as above.

There are many other drivers that can cause conflicts as well, but these are the main ones.

3. Make sure customer has the latest firmware on both their CD-ROM and CD-Writer.

Win 95/98/ME - current version can be found by going into the Device Manager, double clicking on the drive, and going to the settings tab.

Win 2000 - right click My Computer and choose Manage. Go to system information\Components\Multimedia\CD-ROM. The firmware revision is listed after the drive string and long underscore next to PNP device ID. Please note that the firmware rev. is part of the PNP Device ID and the window may have to be expanded in order for the information to be visible. Firmware can also be found in the Music CD Project or Data CD Project under Tools/CD drive Properties.

Win NT - firmware revision can be found by going to Control Panel\SCSI Adapters. Find and double click the desired drive and go to settings.

Firmware updates can be obtained by download from the manufacturer of the drive.

4. Make sure the customer is running the latest version of the software. Obtain updates at http://www.roxio.com/en/support/filelist.html

Turn off TSR’s.
Win 98/ME - go to start\run and type in msconfig, click OK. Choose the option for selective startup, uncheck "process autoexec.bat", "process config.sys", and "load startup group items." Click on Apply, and then OK. It will prompt you to restart at this point. Do so.

Win 95 - hit ctrl-alt-del and end task on everything except explorer and systray.

Win NT and Win 2000 - disable all Icons on the task bar and turn off anything not necessary in the processes window.

6. Look at the configuration of the drive itself.

SCSI

All OS’s - Go into the bios of their SCSI card and set the following, if found, only on the ID that their burner is on.

Disconnect = disabled
Sync negotiation = disabled
Wide negotiation = disabled
Transfer rate = 5
Parity – enabled
**If the customer does not know how to get into their SCSI bios, or what SCSI ID their writer is set to, they will need to contact their SCSI Card Manufacture to walk them through these steps**

PARALLEL

All OS’s - Make sure they have the latest parallel port drivers for both their drive and their OS.

Go into the system BIOS and set the parallel port mode to ECP or EPP. If you are having trouble finding this option, they may need to contact their motherboard manufacturer, as all BIOS’s are laid out differently.

USB

All OS’s - Make sure they have the latest USB drivers for both their drive, and the OS.

- Make sure they remove all other USB devices from the chain while recording.

For 95, 98, and ME – Make sure they have the latest hard disc controllers for their motherboard. they can get these from their motherboard manufacturer.

IDE

95, 98, ME – Busmastering IDE controller drivers are a known conflict with our cd writing software. Go to the settings tab in Device Manager for each IDE cd device on their system and remove the check mark for the DMA box and then click ok and when prompted, reboot the system.

All OS’s - Make sure they have the latest hard disc controllers, or ATAPI driver for their motherboard. They can get these from their motherboard manufacturer.

2000 – Right click on my computer and choose manage. Under system tools, choose device manager. Go to Atapi/IDE controllers. Double click on the IDE controller the drive is attached to. Go to advanced settings and set the writer and the rom to PIO only. Restart.

NT - Try reloading the Atapi driver that runs their CD devices. Go to control panel and choose SCSI Adapters. Go to the drivers tab. Choose the Atapi drive and hit remove. Choose add. From the list that comes up, choose standard mass storage, and then the Atapi 1.2. When the message comes up that they already have it on their system, say yes. Restart when it asks.

Download a program called dmachk from http://support.microsoft.com/suppor...s/Q191/7/74.ASP Double click on this, and turn off the option for DMA on both your writer and your rom. You can leave it on for your hard drive. Reboot

7. The UDF file system that is embedded into Win 95/98/ME will often cause conflicts with the Direct CD software as we load our own UDF drivers. Go to Start->Run menu and type msconfig and click OK, now click the "advanced" button on the General tab and check the line that reads "Disable UDF file system".

8. In NT and 2000 make sure they are logged on as THE ADMINISTRATOR, not a user with Administrative rights.

9. Empty temp, temporary Internet, and history folders. Run a thorough scan disc and defrag on the system.

10. We do not support upgraded or server versions of any OS. Only a clean, full install of the OS in a workstation environment. We do not support copying over the network in any way shape or form.
