Unrecognized database format and a lock symbol

Hi All,

I have an application developed in Access 2002, distributed with a
Sagekey installer.

I have one customer on an XP machine who insists that everything has
been fine for weeks, even through a few reboots, until this morning. Now she
gets the message that the MDE file is an unrecognized database format.

She said she looked in the program directory, and the icon for the MDE
file has a blue lock symbol.

Can anyone give me a quick heads up about what might have happened?

Thanks,
Max

Re: Unrecognized database format and a lock symbol

The icon for mde files is the Access mdb icon with the blue lock in the upper
right, so she's fine there.

There are two reasons for Access to give the "Unrecognized database format"
error:

1 - the db is corrupted
2 - the user is trying to open the db in an earlier version of Access

If she has more than one version of Access installed, tell her to make sure
she's opening the mde file with Access 2002, or 2003 or 2007. If she only
has Access 2002 installed she needs to restore from backup because the mde
file is corrupted.
