"Not Responding" for HOURS

My Excel 2007 spreadsheet has been "Not Responding" for HOURS.

I can hear the hard drive spinning (at various speeds) but, on the PC,
the green activity light (indicating that data is being written to or
read from the hard drive) has been flashing very infrequently.

I don't want to lose the changes I've made to my spreadsheet so how
can I save my spreadsheet?

What could be causing the "Not Responding" condition?

Re: "Not Responding" for HOURS

Sometimes this happens. Perhaps due to trying to run formulas on tooooo
large an area??????
Not likely to respond. Save often or look for auto save copy.
