opening older files from Lotus/Quattro

When attempting to open a file from Lotus 1-2-3 or Quattro Pro or save a
file back in one of those formats, I get the following message:
"You are attempting to open a file type that is blocked by your registry
policy setting." This has only occurred since installing Office Update SP3.
How do I change the registry policy setting so I can get back to work?
Uninstalling SP3 is not possible.

Re: opening older files from Lotus/Quattro

Wow, can't have too much security I guess. I had the same problem (with
Excel 2003 which I assume you're using). Here's the registry entries you
need to overcome it.

Step 1: Create these new registry nodes:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\E xcel\Security\FileOpenBlock

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\E xcel\Security\FileSaveBlock

Step 2:

In BOTH of them create this Dword entry:

LotusandQuattroFiles

leaving it at the default value of 0
