How can i Re-install internet explorer

I had internet explorer 6 and then tried to install internet explorer 7.

Anyway about 3 months ago i tried to do online scan at www.symantec.com and
www.mcafee.com and they won't work saying i need to have internet explorer 5
or above. it looks like an active x problem??/

kaspersky, f-secure and trend micro house call online scans work. i use
norton internet security and Adaware 2007 mainly [i also have adaware se,
spybot s and d, avg antispyware 7.5 and xoft spy and spyware blaster and
spyware dr starter ]

symantec tech support told me to go to microsoft to re-install internet
explorer...i tried to unistall internet explorer 7 and then use internet
explorer 6 to reinstall internet explorer 7..that did not work and symantec
tech support said that was not how i should go about it and i needed to get
onto micro soft...problem is i can't afford micro soft tech support...any
advice on how to sort out this problem

What version of IE was installed at the time?

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? What other
anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall
(if any)? Were any of these applications active when you installed IE7?

Are you running IE6 now? Is the WinXP machine fully patched at Windows
Update?

Re: How can i Re-install internet explorer

I guess i tried to download all the automatic updates...i would have being
using ie7 at the time..the problem would have started shortly after
installing ie7 but not resolved by uninstalling ie7 and using the remaining
ie6

i would have used norton internet security with its firewall...i have
Adaware 2007 mainly with the norton [i also have adaware se,
> spybot s and d, avg antispyware 7.5 and xoft spy and spyware blaster and
> spyware dr starter ]..i can't be 100 % it isn't spyware or 100% it isn't....[kaspersky online scan showed up clear last night and Ad-aware only tracking cookies...but not sure what else prob could be]

i hope that helps

Re: How can i Re-install internet explorer

[To keep track of things, it helps immensely if you include all of previous
message(s) in your replies to the newsgroup. Thank you.]

I'd have to say that having all of those real-time protections enabled when
you originally installed IE7 caused the problem. Having them enabled when
you uninstalled IE7 may have made things worse, if possible.

Required reading IMHO before (re)installing IE7:

NAV, any/all Norton Add-ons, Spybot Tea Timer, AVG Anti-Spyware's guard.exe,
XoftSpy, and Spyware Doctor MUST be disabled prior to
installing/uninstalling any IE upgrade!! Personally, I'd recommend
uninstalling Ad-Aware SE, AVG Anti-Spyware, XoftSpy, and Spyware Doctor
prior to attempting to install IE7 again, then replace them all with Windows
Defender and install Ad-Aware 2007 (or leave Ad-Aware uninstalled).

To fully disable Tea Timer, see http://aumha.net/viewtopic.php?t=32409

And I strongly recommend using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dow.../getitnow.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.

Tip: Save the installer to your desktop, do not Run it.

Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after
installing IE7 and install any critical updates offered. If Optional
Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it
to take full advantage of IE7's additional security.
