Opening word doc from IE

I have windows xp, IE 7 and word xp.

I have set my computer up so Word links are opened in the Word program, not
IE (my computer | tools | folder options | File types | Doc | Advanced and
unchecked "browse in same window").

The word opens in its own window just fine. My problem is closing the Word
application. Instead of immediately closing, it takes about 2-3 mins for the
application to close.

Is this normal? Is there anything else I can do to speed up the closing?
For users, they think there is something wrong and will force the close every
time.

Re: Opening word doc from IE

Hi,
Journaling (in MS Outlook) can cause this.

Additional information on this and other possibilities at
http://groups.google.com/group/micro...q=slow +close

Hope this helps,

Re: Opening word doc from IE

Hi,
Everything I know about this is in that search ;-)

This sounds like a Word problem- not an Internet Explorer problem.

Is Word slow to close when the document was on the local drive- not on the
web?

You might try the Word group at
Web access:
http://www.microsoft.com/communities....word.newusers

NNTP:

Re: Opening word doc from IE

This only happens if I try to open a Word doc from a weblink. If I save
(instead of open) the doc onto the network or local drive, opening the doc
runs fine.

This happened ever since I can remember..word 2000, xp, ie 6 and 7...

I tried posting an email to the word newsgroup and didn't get an answer.
I'll try again.

Again, it takes a few mins for the word program to actually close.
weird eh?
