Internet Explorer 7 Crashes and Restarts (Vista Home Premium)
I have had this problem for 6 months with Vista Home Premium and IE-7.
PROBLEM: When I open webpages with audio or video IE would crash and restart. INFO about the problem: Myspace was the worst for this since all of the pages had media players and youtube videos. I had tried every solution I could find on the net. I tried cleaning out video and mp3 codecs, reinstalling flash and all other plugins for audio/video with no luck. I tried creating a new account with admin privs and had the same results under a new account. Service Pack 1 was available and I tried that without any luck. After giving up on this problem for a while, I accidetly stumbled on a permissions issue with one of my folders in c:\Program Files when trying to uninstall a program. Digging into this issue I realized something was wrong with my main account. SOLUTION: Install Service Pack 1 for Vista. I had done this before I started and it may have had an impact on this resultion. I used the windows transfer utility and backed up my profile to a location on the root of my hard drive. Also i copied a backup of the c:\users\%username% folder for the account with the problems. I then logged on as "Administrator" and deleted my damaged account, KEEPING THE FILES. I then created a NEW account as the SAME NAME as the one I deleted. Once I logged off from Administrator I logged on as my new account. Make sure you set the password the same as your old account. Once you log back in under your new account you can use the Windows Transfer utility to transfer your account info back to your newly created account. AFTER DOING THIS ALL MY PROBLEMS WERE GONE!!! The IE7 crashes are gone! The permission problems on folders are gone! Since I battled this so long and so hard. I wouldnt feel right not sharing this resolution. It helped me when all of the others failed. |

Re: Internet Explorer 7 Crashes and Restarts (Vista Home Premium)
I suspect Vista SP1 (and audio and/or graphics driver updates required to
install SP1) may have resolved the issues. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Highl@nd3r wrote: > I have had this problem for 6 months with Vista Home Premium and IE-7. > > PROBLEM: > When I open webpages with audio or video IE would crash and restart. > > INFO about the problem: > Myspace was the worst for this since all of the pages had media players > and > youtube videos. > > I had tried every solution I could find on the net.
