IE7 & VISTA

I am extremly frustrated by the errors that crop up using IE7 and vista ...
The LEAST you could do is make IE7 downloadable.. especially for those of us
that have genuine microsoft products !! It makes one want to move permanently
to firefox!!

So what ARE your "problems"? Why would you want to be able to download IE7
for Vista as it's part of the OS...

No it isn't. Why is a RANT with NO details WHATSOEVER of what the "problems"

I had to reinstall Vista Ultimate onto another drive when the original drive

Since installing several add-ins (Windows Live Search etc) I have
experienced Internet Explorer closing with an error (unspecified but claiming
to be contacting Microsoft who will (never have yet) contact me with a
solution) then restarting

VERY ANNOYING

Do Microsoft really have a solution? as I have tried to do a Repair but the
repair program reports nothing amiss

I know of three causes for the vast majority of such problems:
1. You might have incompatible add-ons:
Go to Start | All Programs | Accessories | System Tools
and click Internet Explorer (No Add-ons).

2. Tools | Internet Options | Advanced
Scroll to the bottom and click Reset Internet Explorer Settings. Read this
article first:
How to use Reset Internet Explorer Settings (RIES):
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737
Note that the Reset IE Settings button will delete AutoComplete data (such
as passwords.) Do you have those backed up?

3. Malware already installed on the computer: Help with malware
All MS-MVP Sites.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/827315

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for
malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince you that you
owe it to the author. See also:
http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread.php?t=27971
Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

You might also try the steps here:
"Internet Explorer stops responding, stops working, or restarts"

Re: IE7 & VISTA

Thanks,

I have tried all these KB articles already .. I can gurantee that when this
crops up it will frustrate the heck out of you ! It begins with page loading
errors, and this is replicated across all users on vista, we have gold level
anti-virus support and have regular security checks, it is not malware ... it
is not a network issue either no is it proxy based or some other dreamt up
excuse....

1) Page loading errors - ranging from java script through to actionscript
errors, php errors ... even intefacing with sharepoint web parts gives an
error.. as I mentioned replicated across the whole user base.

2) When you go to the download page it detects vista and goes ( " get lost
") you have it installed already... so we tried other avenues ... nothing
doing.

I give up Im moving to firefox ... thanks
