I've got to hand it to you, this is an excellent, easy-to-understand
explanation/clarification!

Hard to tell if you will miss anything, or not. Personal tastes vary. If you
aren't sure, go to Add/Remove Programs, and uninstall every instance of Java
that you find. If something breaks, you will just have to reinstall. Be
aware that some programs you install want Java on the computer; and some
programs which want Java want a specific version. You may have to reinstall
that particular program.

If an older version is required, you may have to decide whether you want the
functionality of a program with a vulnerable older Java version, or prefer
the security of not having a vulnerable version of Java, which means doing
without the program.

If you go to a web site that wants Java in order to do something nifty, and
you don't have Java installed, you will be prompted to install it.

Java "updates" usually just install the latest version, and leave older
versions in place.

In the end, nobody can make this decision for you. You'll have to figure out
for yourself what you should do.

Vanguard's suggestion to uninstall all previous versions, and get the latest
version from the Sun Microsystems site is the safest advice of the lot.

The suggestion offered by mae is also quite reasonable.

Then don't bother ever going to any of the following that use the Java
plugin:o)

Sites that use Java Web Applications such as the Secunia Software Inspector
site:
http://secunia.com/software_inspector

Sites that display Java Applets(such as the Lake, Snow...etc applets), as
seen at this sites:
http://www.janim.com/

Sites that offer Java Games, like these sites(to name but a few):
http://www.jigzone.com/
http://www.pogo.com/
http://www.freearcade.com/cardgames.html

Good luck,

Donald Anadell

Yes, if it wasn't Secunia Software Inspector I don't think I'd bother with
Java.
