Re: Vista Browser History does not display
I've had the same problem since migrating to a new PC with Windows Vista Home
Premium - no History, nothing in the History pane when selected. I figured others had the problem but could not find a solution when I switched to Vista about 11 months ago. I decided to look again and found a few posts in this forum including this one. I tried to delete the index.dat and the index cleaner and eraser programs and neither worked. I couldn't delete the index.dat even in Safe Mode because Vista had it open. The Cleaner and Erase history programs did erase/clean things but they did not solve the problem. What I did find by accident, and was able to recreate, is the security settings for Vista are so restrictive that the History folder, and History.IE5 sub folder, and desktop.ini files are all protected with a DENY access rule for all users, even SYSTEM. After I enabled my user account with admin rights to have full access the History in IE7 started working. I enabled access just to look at them. The folders were indexed and now the processes can read and write to the history file. I can only guess that IE7 is not able to write to the history or IE7 is not able to read the history and therefore the History pane in IE7 is always empty. You might first try going through the Local Settings / History folders and files and removing the DENY access to all rule before any other drastic measures. I had to open and close IE7 and then enter a few sites, but soon after the "TODAY" entry in History showed up. I had to do this for all of the accounts on my PC. It's a shared PC among my wife and I and our two daughters. You have to change your folder view options to see hidden and system files. To allow access righ click on the folder or file, choose Properties, choose the Security tab, view the access rights, click Advanced to see and remove the DENY or set the allow access rights. For some files there were no access rights assigned to any account/user. I had to add the account/user name and then give full access. It should be pretty easy to work through even with these spotty directions. TW "Parup" wrote: > Hi. > I have the same problem with display of history. Re: Vista Browser History does not display
All,
I've checked security and tried deleting all files in the History folder (including deleting the History folder and copying the History folder from another profile that works) and IE 7 with Vista is still not logging any History on a profile migrated with the Vista Migration Wizard from XP sp2. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
