Error initializing Virtual Key

An old problem wenmt away for a while, then came back after an MS Office
update with restart.

After opening every new Internet Explorer 7 page, when attempting to go a
url, I get this message:

"! An error has occurred while initializing the Virtual Key shared cache. If
you want Virtual Key to work correctly, please close this application and
restart it."

If you close that window and open another, the same thing happens again. With
no explanation of what else to do, I just click ok and continue on to the
url. Any suggestions?

Re: Error initializing Virtual Key

Vista. This is what Virtual Key's RPAINFO.TXT says:
Virtual Key, a means of validating a user's identity on the Internet using
Remote Passphrase Authentication (RPA) technology, has been installed on your
computer. The following Internet clients have been "Virtual Key enabled":

- Netscape Navigator custom version 2.02 for CompuServe or
v3.0, beta 4 or later
- Microsoft Internet Explorer v3.0 or later

- Microsoft Internet Mail (version 4.70.1160) or later

- Other SSPI compliant applications

The following files have been installed in the system directory
(WINDOWS\SYSTEM on Windows 95 or WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 or Windows NT) of your
computer:

RPA.DLL - The dynamic link library that implements the RPA protocol for
Virtual Key.

RPACFG.DLL - The dynamic link library that implements the Virtual Key
accounts wizard API and other configuration APIs.

RPAWINET.DLL - The dynamic link library that is required to enable Virtual
Key for Internet Explorer, version 3.0.

RPASSPC.DLL - The dynamic link library that is required to enable Virtual
Key for the Internet Mail client and other non-web clients.

RPAEDIT.EXE - An editor application for editing Virtual key Accounts as well
as viewing and deleting sites from the Virtual Key Site List that is created
by Virtual Key when accessing secure sites.

RPAUI.HLP - Help for Virtual Key features.

VKUNINST.DLL - An uninstaller program for Virtual Key.

MSJRPA32.DLL - A DLL that allows Java applets within Internet Explorer to
talk to RPA

RPAINFO.TXT - This file.

The following file and directory has been added to your default Java Class
Path (%ClassPath%, WINDOWS\SYSTEM\JAVA\CLASSES on Windows 95 or
WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\JAVA\CLASSES on Windows NT) for Microsoft:

%ClassPath%\com\compuserve\rpa\sspi\ClientContext. class - This is the RPA
piece for IE Java applets.

If you have a Netscape browser, the following files have been added to your
Netscape Java path:

%NetscapeJava%\Bin\JRpaSspc.dll

%NetscapeJave%\classes\com\compuserve\rpa\sspi\Cli entContext.class - This is
the RPA piece for Netscape Java applets. NOTE this is not the same as the
Microsoft version.

Note about the install: In order to reset the watchword that is displayed
in the dialogs, you must Remove Virtual Key before re-installing it.
Otherwise, the watchword will remain the same.

Re: Error initializing Virtual Key

Looks like Virtual Key isn't supported in WinXP, let alone Vista:

<QP>
Virtual Key is available on the Windows 3.x and Windows 95/98/NT platforms.

Re: Error initializing Virtual Key

My pages loaded without error for a while. I don't know why. The CS program I
downloaded was for XP rather than the NT version, which also exists. One
thing you can't count on from them up-to-date "help" pages.
