Viewing IE7 temporary internet file under Vista
Hi,
I am transitioning from XP to Vista and have trouble trying to find or view the temporary internet files in IE7 as I could under XP. The Tools option points it to c:/Users/username/AppData/Local/ Microsoft/Windows/Temporary Internet Files, but there are only a few files seems visible. Checking the property of that folder indicates there are hundreds of files existed, but seems not visible. I think I have changed all the view options of the folders along the way so that they will not hide hidden files and also unchecked the "hide protected system file" option. Could anybody tell me how I can view those files? Thanks very much. |

Re: Viewing IE7 temporary internet file under Vista
Hi,
The easiest way to view the Temporary Internet Files is with the TIF viewer in IE. From Internet Options> General> Browsing history> Settings> View files. Option 2: You probably won't be able to browse to your Temporary Internet Files folder at C:\Users\account name\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Temporary Internet Files. You should be able to access this folder by searching the folder C:\Users\account name for "temporary internet files" Click on Advanced Search and check the box to "Include non-indexed, hidden and system files." Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] <hsb33@optonline.net> wrote in message news:4f0c7183-3e92-4552-9808-08a5dece9e9f@e6g2000prf.googlegroups.com... > Hi, > > I am transitioning from XP to Vista and have trouble trying to > find or view the temporary internet files in IE7 as I could under XP. > The Tools option points it to c:/Users/username/AppData/Local/ > Microsoft/Windows/Temporary Internet Files, but there are only a few > files seems visible. Re: Viewing IE7 temporary internet file under Vista
Hi Don,
Thanks for the help, but I think you have not read my problem thoroughly. I have no problem looking into that temporary internet file folder via the Tools -> Internet Options ->........-> View files, or simply directly via Windows Explorer to go to that c:/Users/username/AppData/Local/ Microsoft/Windows/Temporary Internet Files. The problem is that I can only see several small files in that folder, even though I think I have enabled all view options along the folders path to allow viewing hidden and system protected files. Right clicking on the property of that folder reveals that there should be hundreds of files in that folder, but somehow I cannot see them. Any idea why that is so? Re: Viewing IE7 temporary internet file under Vista
To get a better look at the TIF folder, run this command from Start> Run
shell:cache\content.ie5 If you use Windows Mail, windows may be reporting the presence of 0 kb files created by Windows Mail but not visible when you view the contents of the TIF folder. Re: Viewing IE7 temporary internet file under Vista
Hi Don,
I am a novice to the Vista and you have lost me here. I expect to see hundreds or thousands of TIF files such as cookies, html, gif, text etc. in that folder, instead I only saw 7 small files in the TIF folder. I don't understand what has this to do with Window Mails? Thanks again. Re: Viewing IE7 temporary internet file under Vista
Have you enabled Show Hidden Files and Folders?
Do you have the appropriate Permissions to access them? -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ hsb33@optonline.net wrote: > Hi, > > I am transitioning from XP to Vista and have trouble trying to > find or view the temporary internet files in IE7 as I could under XP. > The Tools option points it to c:/Users/username/AppData/Local/ > Microsoft/Windows/Temporary Internet Files, but there are only a few > files seems visible. RE: Viewing IE7 temporary internet file under Vista
Hi I have the exact same problem. I have cleared the files on both my vista PC and XP unit. I have then visited the exact same sites on both machines and then looked at the logs. XP shows thousands of entries whereas the Vista PC shows about 20. Taking it further I went into a website where I know a cookie will be created. Both machines accept the cookie, but I cannot see the Vista cookie. When I clear the Vista cookies the website is reset when I visit. Therefore, Vista is accepting the cookie but not displaying it! How do we see the stored files? John |

Re: Viewing IE7 temporary internet file under Vista
Yes, I have checked the "Show hidden files and folder" as well as
unchecked the "Hide protected OS files" options in the Folder View Options for ALL the folders from C: down do that TIF folder and have verified that. Still no differences. As for permission, I have encountered some folders that are reviewed after the above options were selected (e.g. Cookies, Local Settings etc.) that won't allow me to view inside those folders. However, this TIF folder is not under those highly protected OS folder and allowed me to view it. Don Vernau suggested some action, but I am hoping that he will clarify a bit of what exactly should be done and what the problem is. Re: Viewing IE7 temporary internet file under Vista
Hi,
OK, the content.ie5 folder idea was a bit off course. But were there items in the content.ie5 folders that you would expect to find in the Temporary Internet Files? Does a different view in the TIF viewer help? Details instead of list? If you clear the Temporary Internet Files, does "properties" report that the TIF folder is empty? Don [MS MVP- IE] <hsb33@optonline.net> wrote in message news:c041eb47-5a76-40f4-8105-77726744dea7@q77g2000hsh.googlegroups.com... Hi Don, I am a novice to the Vista and you have lost me here. Re: Viewing IE7 temporary internet file under Vista
Hi Don,
Not sure what IE5 has to do with it. I guess the answer is no. I right click and the property said the TIF folder contains more than 8000 files. After erasing all temporary internet files via the Tools menu, file count is down to 41 files (they are cookies that I didn't erase). Yes, I am certain that I am looking into the right folder. I have always been looking at detailed view of all folders (that's my habit), so it does not make any difference at all. Any suggestion?
