Phishing check

I recently installed IE7 on my wife's laptop and she complains it is running
extra slow.

Apparently each site is checked by a phishing filter.

Can this be turned off?

Re: Phishing check

Internet Options>Tools>Advanced tab>Phishing filter>Turn off.

Re: Phishing check

You can turn it off in the Tools menu, if you have another phishing
solution, but try this first:

"The computer may respond very slowly as the Phishing Filter evaluates
Web page contents in Internet Explorer 7"

Re: Phishing check

[If the machine's fully patched at Windows Update, 928089 is already
installed.]

Re: Phishing check

Are you running a security application that also includes Anti-Phishing
component (e.g. Norton or McAfee)?

All that is running is Windows Defender and AVG Free Edition 7.5

It is my wife's laptop and when she is around, she doesn't like anyone doing
maintainance. She has gone out now for a few hours so I thought I would
check the Updates, and just to annoy me, the computer can't connect to
Windows Update - I don't know why, so I guess I give up on updates. Let's
hope that it doesn't crash
