Can't browse to a menu item, but can Open it and browse to it
Not sure of my terminology here, so the Subject line may not be all
that clear. My wife is trying to access one of our Credit Union's online banking services. The CU's home page has a dropdown menu, and the service she wants is listed as one of the dropdown items. If she clicks that item, you can see the correct URL in the area at the bottom of the browser. But nothing happens - no error messages, nothing. If she right-clicks the menu item and then Opens it from the context menu, then it opens just fine. Also, if she enters the same URL that's displayed at the bottom of the browser (don't know what that line is called - sorry) in the address line, it works just fine. So, here's my question: What kind of setting/option might be governing the type of behavior I've described? Is there some option somewhere that I should be checking? Thanks. |

The line you see at the bottom of the browser that displays the URL
(among other things) is known as the Status Bar. How about telling us what version of Internet Explorer and Windows you have? --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est Dave wrote: > Not sure of my terminology here, so the Subject line may not be all > that clear. > > My wife is trying to access one of our Credit Union's online banking > services. Re: Can't browse to a menu item, but can Open it and browse to it
Thanks, Leonard.
We're both on on IE7, XP SP2. I have a second system isntalled which purports to be configured the same as my wife's, and I can brose away using the menu structure at will. I've compared a number of things between systems to find out if there's an obvious difference, but nothing's turned up so far. I did remove all the cookies and temp files on my wife's system (after the problem arose) but it seemed to amke no difference inasmuch as it pertains to the problem at hand. Does your bank's web site support Internet Explorer 7?

Re: Can't browse to a menu item, but can Open it and browse to it
1. Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE7 in No Add-ons mode: Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No add-ons). Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx 2. Does the problem persist if you Reset IE7 Settings (RIES)? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 <= Read before using! 3. If you uninstall (a) IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6), (b) all toolbars and (c) all third-party Windows Themes (including Window Blinds) and do NOT reinstall IE7, does this behavior persist? If it does, do NOT reinstall IE7. Uninstalling IE7 http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html How to uninstall Internet Explorer 7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177 IE7 (Un)Installation and Anti-Malware Applications: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...lications.aspx 4. Required reading IMHO before reinstalling IE7: Sandi's Installation Tips <= FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO THE LETTER! http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install [And I strongly recommend using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dow.../getitnow.mspx as the installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.] Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after reinstalling IE7 to install any critical updates offered. If Optional Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it to take full advantage of IE7's additional security. -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-Windows (IE, OE, Security, Shell/User) AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Dave wrote: > Thanks, Leonard. > > We're both on on IE7, XP SP2. > > I have a second system isntalled which purports to be configured the > same as my wife's, and I can brose away using the menu structure at > will.
