IE7 sometimes closes, sometimes asks if I want to close all tabs
Hi,
I am having issues with IE7. I have created a number of web pages and occasionally when I open one, IE7 asks if I want to close all tabs. This is done after it displays the page itself. If I answer yes, IE7 closes, if I answer no, IE7 asks again if I want to close all tabs. I suspected that this issue was because of some bad code, so I tried the web page on other computers runnin IE7 and IE6. In both instances it worked. My P.C. has the ability to log into it via 2 users, myself and my wife. I moved the file to the Share and logged in to my wifes account. I was able to display it from there. This leads me to believe that it is something having to do with a program that I run that is not compatible with IE7. Every now and again, I also come across web pages that do the same thing, yet I know that they work, again when I log in as my wife, and also on other P.C.'s in the house. I had posted this question to the Experts Exchange, as I am a member, but they were not able to answer the question. I am hoping someone here may have the answer. The web page I referenced that did the same thing was in that trail, but it has been deleted. If I come up with it again I will post it. I am pretty tired of it. I have also tried to uninstall and re-install IE7 but it still does not matter it does the same thing. Please help. Swaff -) |

Re: IE7 sometimes closes, sometimes asks if I want to close all tabs
To determine if your problem is caused by a third-party add-on, start IE
7 with no add-ons. If the problem no longer occurs, one (or more) add-ons was causing the problem. For Windows XP: All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) For Windows Vista: Type Internet Explorer in the Start Search box > click Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons) To determine if your problem is caused by incorrect configuration settings, reset IE 7 to its original configuration. If the problem no longer occurs, one (or more) incorrect configuration settings was causing the problem. Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > under Reset Internet Explorer Settings, click Reset. Note: If you want to continue to use any of your add-ons after a reset, you'll have to reinstall them. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est Swaff wrote: > Hi, > > I am having issues with IE7. Re: IE7 sometimes closes, sometimes asks if I want to close all ta
Leonard,
Thanks for the quick response. I did as you asked and started IE without add-ons and opened the page. This time, IE closed down completely. If I bring up IE now, in full mode, it does the same thing as it used to.. asks if I want to close all tabs. In regards to the reset of IE, I can do that, but I just re-installed it today. I would suspect that a re-instal would do the same as a reset!? Thanks, Swaff -) "Leonard Grey" wrote: > To determine if your problem is caused by a third-party add-on, start IE > 7 with no add-ons. Re: IE7 sometimes closes, sometimes asks if I want to close all ta
You may have another horked (dirty; bad; flawed) install of IE7. I suggest
that you... 1. Uninstall IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6) per http://www.ie-vista.com/kbase2.html 2a. Uninstall all toolbars and third-party Windows Themes (including Window Blinds). 2b. Disable all Norton Add-ons, if applicable. 3. Reinstall IE7 exactly per http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install, and using http://www.microsoft.com/windows/downloads/default.mspx as the installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update. 4. IMMEDIATELY go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com and install any critical updates offered. If a "Root Certificates" update is listed in the Optional category, you might install it, too, to take full advantage of IE7's additional security. instruction, you mention to uninstall using the web page for vista. I am running XP Pro, SP2. Do these instructions still apply? Ignore the reference to Vista in that URL.

Re: IE7 sometimes closes, sometimes asks if I want to close all ta
Thanks for the reply again.... I did manage to start prior to the response,
but of course, as luck would have it... I need to install the recovery console, as the others did not work... and, my XP Pro version is prior to XP-SP2. This just gets more and more fun... What a way to enjoy your week off!!! So, I will respond once I figure out how to create a windows XP sp2 installation folder and continue from there. This seems like an awful lot of work for a product that was installed via an Automatic update and pushed down to my P.C. I had suspected that I would have problems, but nothing to this extent! Required reading IMHO before installing IE7:
