Toolbar issues

I finally took the plunge and downloaded IE7 after waiting for more than a
year. At first, I couldn't figure out how to find anything, but then found
the classic toolbar. It's in a weird place in the middle of things, which
makes it in the way. I want to have it, but not where it's in the middle of
things. Apparently, it can't be moved, which is unfortunate. Also, I'd like
to put my home, refresh, stop, back and forward buttons all right next to
each other because those are the only functions I use while browsing. I sure
wish I could customize the toolbars the way I'd like to use them instead of
how someone else thinks I should change.

I'll probably leave IE7 on my computer because I would like to keep moving
forward, but to be honest, I find it a bit aggravating and I probably won't
use it very much.

Re: Toolbar issues

Hi,
There are some customizations available for the IE7 toolbar.
First see: www.enhanceie.com > Tweaks

Then:
Quero toolbar http://www.quero.at/
IE7 Pro http://www.ie7pro.com/
http://www.iecustomizer.com/

Browser shells (overlays) which use the IE engine:
Maxthon browser http://www.maxthon.com/
Avant browser http://www.avantbrowser.com/

Hope this helps,
Don

in Internet Explorer 7:

Re: Toolbar issues

Does anyone know WHY they made it like this? Just seems rediculous
that every other MS program has no problem custumizing the layout of
your toolbars/menus, save this. Why? It is so aggravating to me.

I imagine because they considered the new Address Bar an important part of
their improved security.

FWIW I always find it ridiculous when people don't spell that word correctly... <EG>

The real reason that the UI looks so much like a prototype is that it probably is
and they ran out of time to do anything better. At least that is the only valid explanation
that I have been able to infer from sources such as this Channel 9 video:

Wait for IE8? ; )

RE: Toolbar issues

I agree that it's anoying, I really didn't like the change at all.
Microsoft's instructions on fixing this is to use regedit to change it. When
I first installed IE7 I found an easier way. In Windows XP use Run, type
gpedit.msc, under User Configuration, select Administrative Templates,
Windows Components, Internet Explorer. On the right hand side you will now
see a listing of setting that you can change. You want to change "Moving the
menu bar above the navigation bar" to enabled. That will put the toolbar
where you want it, at the top! It's really much easier than that probably
sounds.

There are other features that you an turn on and off here as well. For
instance if you don't like the IE search bar (I use the google toolbar and
find it redundant) you can enable "Prevent the Internet Explorer search box
from displaying" - this one however is under the Computer Configuration
rather than the User Configuration.

Hope that helps!
