IE 7.0 won't load any pages
I'm running Vista with IE 7.0. I use a hand full of internet connections
including numerous wifis and a lan (its a laptop obviously). Currently IE won't load any pages at all. It generally comes up with either a "page not found" or a "address incorrect" error. If you "diagnose the problem" it says that the internet connection is fine. Mozilla runs well all the time and I don't have any problems with my desktop RSS feeds or iTunes so I know that I'm connected to the internet. While trying to think of possible causes I realized that the problem began about the same time that I uninstalled the Norton Antivirus that came with my computer and replaced it with a Norton Corporate version. Am I running into security problems with IE internet settings or what? |

Re: IE 7.0 won't load any pages
Hi,
Make sure that the Windows Firewall is enabled (Control Panel> Windows Firewall) and disable NAV, as a test. See if NAV needs to be reconfigured. Hope this helps, Don [MS MVP- IE] "Brad" <Brad@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:7909B959-8F5A-4AD6-B8FF-770E8E5E89E0@microsoft.com... > I'm running Vista with IE 7.0. Re: IE 7.0 won't load any pages
This did work! I'm wondering though, when I go to the Microsoft update page,
it wants me to reinstall KB942615. If I do this will IE stop working again? I should mention that I wasn't able to follow the instructions exactly because I couldn't go to windowsupdates.microsoft.com until after I restarted my machine because IE wasn't working yet and the site doesn't work with Firefox. Thanks. Re: IE 7.0 won't load any pages
Yes, you want KB942615 installed.
Is KB942615 being offered to the machine via Automatic Updates? What happens when you try to go to Windows Update website? Re: IE 7.0 won't load any pages
Ok, so this seems to be a reoccurring problem. KB942615 is offered via
automatic updates (I think) and then IE doesn't work. I uninstall it, it works. Either I opt to reinstall it or I allow updates without paying attention and it reinstall and IE doesn't work again etc...Recently I've been finding that iTunes isn't working either although I'm not sure if thats an apple problem or a security problem. Firefox seems like it just doesn't care. It works all the time. Thanks, Brad "PA Bear" wrote: > Yes, you want KB942615 installed. > > Is KB942615 being offered to the machine via Automatic Updates? > > What happens when you try to go to Windows Update website? Did you try Steps #1 through #5 in my first reply?
[In Step #5, you won't use the Windows Update webpage to check for updates in Vista; see this tutorial: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tuto...0.html#updates ] > ...Firefox seems like it just doesn't care. Unfortunately that is not a good test for your problem. In fact it is misleading because the module used to check connectivity is different from the one that you are having trouble with but that fact is hidden. Testing with a different browser would be just as valid and less misleading. > Mozilla runs well all the time and I > don't have any problems with my desktop RSS feeds or iTunes so I know that > I'm connected to the internet. Am I running into > security problems with IE internet settings or what? As others are trying to make clear to you the most likely cause of your symptom is blocking of use outbound to port 80 by your firewall or security software because it thinks that your *new* version of iexplore.exe is no longer "authorized" to use that port. Remove the impediment or authorize iexplore.exe to go through it. But if you remove it make sure that you replace it with Windows firewall. Good luck Robert Aldwinckle --- |
