cannot delete emails from comcast server

After a recent microsoft xp update, I can no longer delete emails from the
inbox of my comcast account on my computer. If I use a friend's computer and
go to the same site, the delete feature works correctly, so the problem is in
my computer. I've talked with tech support at comcast, but they suggested I
may have a virus. I've run my virus scan with a no problem result.
Suggestions?
Bill

IE version? Wanna tell us what happens when you /try/ to delete a message
from your inbox on the webmail page?

Some features that must be enabled in your browser for Comcast's
webmail to work:

- Meta-refresh must be allowed. Some popup blockers will disable
meta-refresh as it can be used to redirect you to a site that you did
not intend to visit or do not want to visit.

- Scripting must be enabled. They use scripts to decide what objects
to paint in the web page presented to you or how to handle you
clicking on objects.

- Cookies must be allowed for their domain. If their cookie is
blocked then logging in to their webmail interface results in an error
and they bounce you back to their main web page. It is possible that
you have an old cookie afterwhich they were blocked and Comcast cannot
use the contents of that old cookie.

- ActiveX must be allowed.

Have you yet tried flushing your browser's temporary file cache and
purging cookies?

Are you running any anti-spyware programs? Tried disabling them?
Have you added entries to the hosts file or using one compiled by
someone else?

Re: cannot delete emails from comcast server

I have this same problem. Tried your suggestions and with no affect. I
tried Firefox and it's the same thing. I tried reverting back to IE6, that
didn't help either.

Re: cannot delete emails from comcast server

I'm using Microsoft Outlook, but the problem I have is not with Outlook, it
happens when I log onto Comcast's webmail page.

Re: cannot delete emails from comcast server

I'm using IE7. Nothing happens when I try to delete a message from my inbox
on the webmail page bacause the "delete" button remains gray, so it doesn't
work. I also cannot select all the yellow boxes in front of my email at once
(the "select all") function doesn't work. Bill

Re: cannot delete emails from comcast server

1. Does this behavior persist if you start IE7 in No Add-ons mode? To start
IE7 in No Add-ons mode:

Right-click on the blue IE desktop icon and select Start without Add-ons; or

Start > (All) Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No
add-ons).

Troubleshooting and Internet Explorer’s (No Add-ons) Mode:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2006/07/25/678113.aspx

2. Does the problem persist if you Reset IE7 Settings (RIES)?
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/923737 <= Read before using!

3. If you uninstall (a) IE7 (which automatically returns you to IE6), (b)
all toolbars and (c) all third-party Windows Themes (including Window
Blinds) and do NOT reinstall IE7, does this behavior persist? If it does,
do NOT reinstall IE7.

Uninstalling IE7

How to uninstall Internet Explorer 7:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927177

IE7 (Un)Installation and Anti-Malware Applications:
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...lications.aspx

4. Required reading IMHO before reinstalling IE7:

Sandi's Installation Tips <= FOLLOW THESE TIPS TO THE LETTER!
http://www.ie-vista.com/known_issues.html#pre-install

[And I strongly recommend using
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/dow.../getitnow.mspx as the
installation source, not Automatic/Windows Update.]

Make *certain* that you check in at Windows Update immediately after
reinstalling IE7 to install any critical updates offered. If Optional
Updates category offers Root Certificates update, I recommend installing it
to take full advantage of IE7's additional security.
