constant Internet Explorer error messages

Dear All:

As I browse the Internet, I constantly receive "error messages" that
Microsoft has encountered a problem, and I am asked either to send an error
report to Microsoft or to close. Either way, my window closes. This happens
constantly. Does anyone have any ideas on how to resolve the problem? I would
really appreciate your assistance. Thank you!

Re: constant Internet Explorer error messages

Not even my psychic advisor knows what versions of Internet Explorer and
Windows you have.

Start your troubleshooting with this:

"Internet Explorer stops responding, stops working, or restarts"

If you are using IE6, then the next time you get the error message, click
the link named "Details" or "Click here for details". See if there is a
module reference to URLMON.DLL.

If so, check this link for a possible fix.

IE version?
Windows version?

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these
Web pages.
Help with malware:
All MS-MVP Sites.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.
