IE7 irritations & how to disable them

Hi,

As a small-time freelance website designer, I enjoy applying rollover
buttons to the sites I do. However, I am getting irritated by two aspects of
Internet Explorer 7, which came with my new PC:

1. When you load a site up that you are browsing, any images with links
require you to "Click to activate and use this control".

2. I keep having to tell I.E to allow rollover buttons on sites I am working
on: it blocks them for security purposes.

I don't see the idea behind the need to "Click to activate and use this
control". Point 2 is fair enough but, like the feature in point 1, is
irritating.

Anyone know how I can disable both of the above?

Dave

Re: IE7 irritations & how to disable them

Hi,
You're encountering the Local Machine Lockdown feature of IE7.
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/l...7150.aspx#EHAA

There are three workarounds:
1. (Preferrred) Give your page(s) the "Mark of the Web"
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms537628.aspx
2. Rename each .HTM file to .HTA while it's on your hard drive. HTA files
aren't as restricted.
3. Internet Options> Advanced> Security> check "Allow active content to run
in
files on My Computer ."

Hope this helps,
Don

This behavior("Click to activate and use this control") in the Browser is an
off shoot of the EOLAS lawsuit settlement. Currently, you must use an
external .js file to load interactive Controls in order to prevent this
behavior in the Browser:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms537508.aspx

This behavior is set to roll back to pre EOLAS behavior in April of 2008.
Microsoft has now acquired the necessary Technology licenses that will allow
them to once again display embedded controls in the browser without the
"Click to activate and use this control" behavior. See the following for
information on the time line for the release of this new behavior in IE:

If these are local html files, see Don Varnau's reply in this thread.

Good luck,
