Cannot click in Address bar Or Links in IE window
Wow,
I have had this annoying problem for months and I am hoping someone from the M$ IE Team can help out. Periodically from time to time without warning or any specific series of actions the Internet Explorer will not allow me to click in the Address bar and I also cannot click on links and using the X in the upper right corner to close the window does not work as well. I can however, do a File --> Exit and close the browser. Only to restart and have the same problem. I have disable all activeX controls and plugins ect to try and isolate this problem. Ran spyware and virus scans to no avail. I reasearched some KB articles and found one related to re-registering some dll's and one seems to work. regsvr32 Urlmon.dll - but this works only 1 time and the problem reappears! Its really strange. I have worked in the business for 22 years and this one has got me stumped. There is probably more things to try but I am looking for the easy answer at this point. I am running Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 RC0 - (had the problem before SP1 thought it might fix it!) with all Updates Applied. Alot of software installed. I can provide more info if necessary. Re: Cannot click in Address bar Or Links in IE window
This is not the "M$ IE Team". It's a public newsgroup.
To determine if your problem is caused by a third-party add-on, start IE 7 with no add-ons. If the problem no longer occurs, one (or more) add-ons was causing the problem. For Windows XP: All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) For Windows Vista: Type Internet Explorer in the Start Search box > click Internet Explorer (No Add-Ons) To determine if your problem is caused by incorrect configuration settings, reset IE 7 to its original configuration. If the problem no longer occurs, one (or more) incorrect configuration settings was causing the problem. Tools > Internet Options > Advanced tab > under Reset Internet Explorer Settings, click Reset. Note: If you want to continue to use any of your add-ons after a reset, you'll have to reinstall them. Most third party security applications (security suites, anti-virus programs, anti-spyware programs, firewalls, ad-blockers, etc.) interact with Internet Explorer to protect your computer from malicious software. Check the settings in your security software to see if this is happening to you. Problems with IE 7 can also be caused by the presence of viruses or other malicious software. --- Leonard Grey Errare humanum est Scott Pfaff wrote: > Wow, > > I have had this annoying problem for months and I am hoping someone from > the M$ IE Team can help out. > > Periodically from time to time without warning or any specific series of > actions the Internet Explorer will not allow me to click in the Address > bar and I also cannot click on links and using the X in the upper right > corner to close the window does not work as well. I'd recommend uninstalling Vista SP1 RC before proceeding. Re: Cannot click in Address bar Or Links in IE window
Hey Lenny there are people from the M$ IE team here but thanks for
reitterating the fact that microsoft.public.intnetexplorer.general is a public news group I'm sure some of the new people here appreciate your redundency. For the record the problem still exists when I run IE with all addons disabled. Re-regestering any other of the common .dlls other then urlmon.dll does not seem to work in Vista.
