Did you even bother to read http://www.hixie.ch/tests/evil/acid/003/?
You proliferated Acid3 here as though it was completed but the author
says otherwise. If you walk forward from his home page, you get to
http://www.hixie.ch/tests/evil/acid/ which does NOT list version 3.
Oh yeah, we are supposed to care about an incomplete test suite for a
web browser that is not yet available, uh huh. Sure, yep, we will
know WHEN IE8 is *available* AND when Acid3 is also *available*.

If you want to find out how IE8 fared against Acid2 (which *does*
exist) then go read
http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/200...milestone.aspx.

You might also want to look at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acid2
where it says, "Internet Explorer 8 will include a new rendering mode
known as "IE8 standards mode".[8] IE8 standards mode is not enabled by
default, but can be triggered by inserting a special flag into a web
page.[8] In IE8 standards mode, IE8 passes the Acid2 test,[9] but
since IE8 standards mode is not enabled by default,[10] IE8 cannot be
considered to truly pass the test." Sounds a bit backwards to have a
web site dictate what compliancy a browser will obey. Also notice
what it says about Firefox and Acid2.

hi Peter,

what part of my original post did you NOT understand? read it through.

I wrote: "might be ready this year or so." which means that I do
understand that Acid3 is NOT yet ready.

and, I agree with you, "IE8 will be ready when its ready." BUT, will it be
ready for Acid3? I'm hoping that it would be. (I know about IE8 passing the
Acid2.)

"This year" is already here. It always is. Without indicating that
you mean months away from know (and which obviously no one could
guess), the vague term means the *immediate* future, not off until you
have to rake the leaves again next fall.

Re: will IE8 pass the Acid3 Test?

hi VanguardLH,

offtopic: keyword is "MIGHT"; if you chose to ignore it OR if you don't
know what it means, then that's not my problem. you can debate about this
"offtopic" for whatever its worth for you; I don't have to explain the
meaning of "MIGHT".

peace.

So why not ask the author of the Acid tests if his version 3, as it
currently stands, will pass Internet Explorer 8 - providing the author
has some inside contacts to shovel an unreleased version of the
product his way. You could also ask the author what tests are planned
to be included and have him guess as to whether IE8 will pass. What
response do you think you would get from the author on such guesses?
