I can't answer your first question, but I can help with the second. Make
sure in "Page Setup" you have landscape selected and when you are going to
print that document click on "file" then "print" and when the print window
opens click on the "properties" button that is to the right of the drop down
window that contains the name of your printer. Once that window opens click
the circle for "landscape". Hope this helps! Good luck!

RE: Default Settings????????

Thanks Jessica but no luck here.......
Well, what am I missing here?? I open properties and do not find "landscape"
in this box?
But let me ask a question.... does Microsoft have an update so that the
document prints in the format that it is created?? This all just does not
make any sense to me - you create a document and format it but it prints in a
different format??? What am I missing here.

AFAIA all office-suite modules have always been able to print a document in
whatever orientation it was saved in as long as the printer is capable of
doing so.
This seems to me to be a problem with your printer rather than with Office.
What type of printer is it, and have you got the very latest drivers for it?

Re: Default Settings????????

What Gordon said for printing in landscape.

For defaulting to Fast/Economical printing, you'll want to close all
applications and then go to Windows Control Panel and then Printers.
Right-click your printer in the list, choose Printing Preferences, and
change the quality setting there.
