Word Vista
I clicked on a Word file and MSWord failed to start. I was then taken to the MS update site and I searched for updates. I found two updates: 1 For the Power Point Viewer 2. Office XP Service Pack 3 Bearing in mind that my problem is with Word, and that my OS is Vista, are either of these updates likely to help. Thanks |

Re: Word Vista
You won't know until you try, BUT first I would try opening Word and
click Help, Detect and Repair. species8350 wrote: > > I clicked on a Word file and MSWord failed to start. Re: Word Vista
Check in the list of installed Programs in the control panel to see what products are installed. If you have Microsoft Office XP
(or any 2002 series Office family product listed there (MS Works Suite includes Word 2002) then the update would be appropriate for Office XP. The Powerpoint Viewer is included with quite a few products. There isn't a 'Vista' Word, but you may have Office or Word 2007 listed there, which is the most common one to ship with Windows Vista. If you do have a 2007 product listed there what is the exact title of the 2007 product listed there? Can you still open Word from the Start menu? ========== <<"species8350" <not_here.5.species8350@xoxy.net> wrote in message news:6f318135-d2e8-4e8a-ba3d-e49f2d8cf703@q39g2000hsf.googlegroups.com... Thanks for bringing the Word repair utility to my attention. I have Word 2002, Works, and PowerPoint 2007 installed. Word starts alright. At present, it opens all doc files except one, where Word appears to crash. I have been assured that this doc opens well on other systems, but it wont open on mine. I am beginning to suspect that Word is alright. If Word crashes, I am wondering if if might be a good idea to delete normal.dot, since Word will remake this file on start up. Interestingly, when I searched 'everywhere' for normal.dot the system could not find the file. But it is in App Data - Roaming - MS - Templates. Thanks for the tips I'll get back if the problems persist. Best wishes. Sp. |
