Money 2006 Cannot sign-in with Vista Ultimate
Cal, I hope you're available.
Was running M-2006 fine on Vista HP. Bought new hard disk & installed Vista Ultimate on it. Installed M-2006 on the Ultimate disk - all seems fine. Am temporarily using the original Vista HP disk as the D: drive - seems fine. Copied my Money 2006 file from the Vista HP drive to the Vista Ultimate drive. On new Ultimate drive, started M-2006. Told it to "open" the file I copied over. Got a message that my login was not acceptable: either email or password incorrect. Double checked both email & password - they are indeed accurate. Am only able to login if I check the "work offline" box - otherwise the message comes back. Tried logging into windows live using my email & password - no problem. Still cannot start M-2006 without checking that darn box. Restarted my computer - booted from the original Vista HP drive & logged into M-2006 without a problem. Do you have any idea why I can open the same money file from Vista HP drive, but not from Vista Ultimate drive? The Ultimate drive seems to be running normally - both are up to date & all other programs work fine. Thanks, Steve |

Be sure that your Money and backup files are moved to a spot that you will have full privileges to, such as within the user's Documents folder. If they are in ProgramFiles, Vista will create an impermanent copy of the file for the user to use, unless the user explicitly right-clicks at launch and choose RunAsAdministrator that time. Install Money from the Money Plus by browsing to the setup file. Right-click that file, and choose RunAsAdministrator. After install, right-click the Money icon and choose RunAsAdministrator to let potential updates happen. Reboot the computer. You should not have to run as Administrator normally. I don't know how you would get the symptom you got. Where you put the *.mny file onto the disk could be a clue. See if copying the *.mny file to your Documents folder makes things work right if you open that copy. Also change the backup paths by browsing to the spot on the new computer. The translation of "My Documents" to "Documents" appears to be incomplete. |

Re: Money 2006 Cannot sign-in with Vista Ultimate
Cal,
Is it possible we're only allowed to install Money 2006 a limited number of times? I've had it a long time now, and gone thru a few upgrades and re-installations. It doesn't ask me to register after I installed it on Ultimate, though I think (??) it did the first time. Just a hunch. I suspect the Tools->Options->OnlineServices->RemindMeToRegisterWhenMoneyStarts setting is part of the file rather than a global (intra-file) setting. |
