Money file repair tool keeps crashing

Every month my checking account doesn't balance. When I attempt to balance
it, I get an error that the starting balance is incorrect. I go back over
several years worth of bank entries, rebalancing every month. I find that
Money has dropped a transaction from several years ago. This has happened
the last 3-4 months now with the missing trasactions appearing random.

This time, I tried to run the file repair tool (standard level) and it keeps
crashing at towards the end of it.

Any suggestions?

Does your Money register gives different balance when
the view is changed to show only unreconciled transactions or
in some other way.

Is this Money 2004?

If using an older version of Money, try the salv.exe described in
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/902466

Heck, you might try that standalone Money 2006 salv.exe anyway.

That's the same tool that's included in Money 2006. It crashed, too.

Thanks for the info.

So you downloaded into a new folder and ran that salv.exe, and it
still crashed. That's not good. I guess I would reinstall Money.
You might consider whether you have a *.mbf file that precedes your
problems. You could restore that to a different filename. Don't
restore to the "default location" so as to not overwrite your
current file.

You could also see what salv.exe does when operating on sample.mny.
That is a simpler file, and the probable no-crash would not mean
much. But a crash *would* be significant. And it would be a good
thing, pointing to a problem in some installation rather than a
problem in the .mny file.
