Money 2004 stopped updating stock info
Hi all,
Money 2004 has suddenly stopped getting stock updates (price, volume, etc.). When I updated stocks prices on July 16th, Money claimed to have also downloaded a program update and informed me of the impending loss of support for Passport. However, since then I have not been able to get any stock updates. The portfolio option to update prices from the internet is gone - all that remains in the drop list under "Update prices" is the manual update option. The "Internet Updates" button at the bottom of the window appears to initiate an update, but no new stock information is ever downloaded. I don't use Passport or background stock updates - I only have a local password on the data file and have always initiated stock updates myself. I rebooted to make sure the alleged program update was installed, but it made no difference. I uninstalled/reinstalled the software, but all that accomplished was to lose some of my GUI customization. I still can't get stock updates and the portfolio internet update option is still missing. Any thoughts? George -- for email reply remove "/" from address |

I don't KNOW, but previous versions have had downloaded quotes end. Note
that this is consistent with the "online services [expiration] policy". Microsoft does not intend to enable these versions in perpetuity. Have you tried: Opening a Money backup? System restore? I doubt either will fix your problem but easy and quick to do so why not try? The problem is likely to be a M$ update of one or more Money DLL files and putting back a good copy of the offending file(s) will hopefully restore full functionality. Hopefully you have a system backup? The M$ fix to this will be to upgrade to the latest version of Money, but if like me you are in the UK that's not an option as the latest UK version (2005) is also past its sell-by date. No good re-installing as the first thing Money will need to do is an online program update so back to square 1. FWIW my Money 2004 is still downloading prices without problem, but then I haven't been doing program updates recently - in anticipation of a M$ SNAFU with the passport changes - and why update something that is working fine? I know that online service access eventually ceases but I was under the impression that meant only bank statements and check paying. I jumped directly from Money '98 to 2004 because 98 crashed a little too often on NT4 and 2004 came with a new XP computer. I don't recall that the stock quotes ever stopped working. Anyway, the message re: Passport simply said that Microsoft was retiring it in favor of Live ID and 2004 and to upgrade if you needed it. Since I never used Passport so I figured I could just ignore it. Also it said support would end July 31 so I never imagined anything would stop working on the 16th. Re: Money 2004 stopped updating stock info
Hi all, After trying a bunch of suggestions including repairing the data file, I remembered I had a fairly recent backup of the data file from a point when stock quote updates worked. I swapped in the old data file and viola, everything worked again. I had to reenter a few transactions, but nothing major. I still don't know what was wrong - I've examined all the options in both data files and they appear identical. But one file works while the other doesn't. Anyway, I'm up and running again and I am making even more frequent backups. Thanks to everyone, George -- for email reply remove "/" from address |

Re: Money 2004 stopped updating stock info
The Passport access has indeed stopped somewhere between the 13th (my last
update) and the 16th (when I noticed). It's gone.
