E.g., buy gas and some groceries at the convenience store on one charge
ticket. Buy groceries and some bus passes at the grocery store on one charge
ticket. Buy clothes and a DVD player at WalMart on one charge ticket.

I'm not sure where you are referring to. Use Advanced Register. Turn off
Transaction Forms.

Education? There is no One Right Answer. Make categories work for YOU.

There may be a fundamental misunderstanding here. CATEGORIES in Money are
for WHY we spend and/or receive. ACCOUNTS are for HOW we spend and/or
receive. So, I'd have a "DiscoverCard" ACCOUNT and enter transactions in it
for my "Food" CATEGORY "Groceries" SUBCATEGORY expenses. If I bought some
groceries from cash in my wallet I'd use the "Pocket Change" ACCOUNT and the
exact same "Food" CATEGORY "Groceries" SUBCATEGORY. That way the accounts
just reflect the flow of money and the categories reflect why it went where
it went regardless of how the cash moved.
