OE7 will not send emails
Hi
I can send emails using another client, but OE7 claims that it can make no connection with the server. "The connection to the server has failed. Account: 'Richard', Server: 'mail.btinternet.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E" This is after downloading a couple of updates for XP. I have removed the updates, but the problem is still there. I have tried to remove OE7, but cannot. What is best? |

Outlook Express version 7 does not exist. http://www.google.com/search?q=%2B"outlook+express"+%2B0x800CCC0E Did you allow OE to make connections through your software firewall? Got e-mail scanning enabled in your anti-virus software? If so, tried disabling it yet? |

Re: OE7 will not send emails
Are you connected to the Internet via btinternet when you are trying to
send? Some ISPs block access to other SMTP mail servers while connected via them. (They block TCP/IP port 25 except to their own SMTP mail server.) Some of these ISPs will make exceptions if you present a compelling reason to do this. The error messages may indicate network is unreachable, access denied, or timeout errors (socket errors 10051, 10061 and 10060.) Another workaround for this is to use the SMTP mail server of the service that you connect via, but leave your other settings the same. In some cases you can use Port 587 or 465 rather than port 25 (specify in OE at Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Advanced). Your ISP is more likely to allow this port. The SMTP mail server has to support this port. SMTP Authentication will likely be required. In OE this is specified in Tools, Accounts, Mail, Properties, Servers, Outgoing Mail Server, My Server Requires Authentication. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "Richard Daish" <richard.daish@btinternet.com> wrote in message news:b7Gdna9VJ9_0tSnanZ2dnUVZ8v6dnZ2d@bt.com... > Hi > I can send emails using another client, but OE7 claims that it can > make no connection with the server. > > "The connection to the server has failed. Re: OE7 will not send emails
1. There ain't no OE7. You're running OE6 in WinXP SP2.
2. Troubleshooting error messages that you receive when you are using OL and OE http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813514 Disable email scanning by your anti-virus application. It provides no additional protection and even Symantec says it's not necessary: <QP> Disabling Email Scanning does not leave you unprotected against viruses that are distributed as email attachments. Norton AntiVirus Auto-Protect scans incoming files as they are saved to your hard drive, including email and email attachments. Email Scanning is just another layer on top of this. To make sure that Auto-Protect is providing the maximum protection, keep Auto-Protect enabled and run LiveUpdate regularly to ensure that you have the most recent virus definitions. </QP> http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT...02111812533106 -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ Richard Daish wrote: > Hi > I can send emails using another client, but OE7 claims that it can make no > connection with the server. > > "The connection to the server has failed. Re: OE7 will not send emails
Thanks for all your ideas, gents.
I eventually solved the problem by removing the two updates, and uninstalling OE. Reinstalling OE then enabled me to send emails again. It appears to have been the two updates (of 13th February) which caused the problem. "PA Bear [MS MVP]" <PABearMVP@gmail.com> wrote in message news:u169FW0bIHA.536@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... > 1. Re: OE7 will not send emails
Try this. You can always remove them again if need be.
Close all programs and ***turn off your ant-virus program***. Go to Windows Updates, choose Custom and download the updates again manually. Reboot and see if you can still send. Your anti-virus should be turned off when you download anything to insure a clean install. And this is often the case with updates. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Richard Daish" <richard.daish@btinternet.com> wrote in message news:9KCdnddvlYCNaCjanZ2dneKdnZydnZ2d@bt.com... > Thanks for all your ideas, gents. > I eventually solved the problem by removing the two updates, and > uninstalling OE. > Reinstalling OE then enabled me to send emails again. > It appears to have been the two updates (of 13th February) which caused > the problem. > > "PA Bear [MS MVP]" <PABearMVP@gmail.com> wrote in message > news:u169FW0bIHA.536@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >> 1. Re: OE7 will not send emails
The two updates I removed were:
KB943055 & KB946062, which were made available on 13th February. Re: OE7 will not send emails
I didn't think that we had to worry about ant viruses. :-)
