Google Groups vs. MS Discussion Groups
I finally took everyone's advice and visited Google Groups to search for my
archived postings. One thing confuses me, though, and that is that a March '08 posting doesn't come up with the original question. Please refer to this address: http://tinyurl.com/62m6l9. The question I asked that isn't there is as follows: ( I finally configured OE to download messages from assorted newsgroups. It seems as if I download about 300 messages, but I am sure there are a lot more. Is there a setting for this? Also, if I sort the messages by the questions I asked, by doing a search on "sheana", can I download just those messages? If so, how? One last question, if I want to save a particular posting, the answers appear as "submessages" to my original question. Is there a way to save the whole message at one time, say, to my desktop? Thanks in advance.) This morning I tried to submit this question via Google Groups by "replying to author", but I can't find the message I wrote this morning on the "clunky web interface" for MS discussion groups. Can you please confirm if you received it? Can you kindly explain this to me? P.S. I did find the original question in the "hide/show" quoted text, but my other, newer questions have the original question on top. |

Re: Google Groups vs. MS Discussion Groups
Google on your newsgroup address:
Author:sheana@discussions.microsoft.com The results are: http://groups.google.com/groups/sear...=&safe=images& You can sort by date to make it easier. Do not Reply To Author. Reply Group only. Use MSNews as your newsreader instead it the Web: Setting up Outlook Express Newsreader for MSNews: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/ou...snewreader.htm And: http://www.insideoe.com/resources/co...tm#setupmsnews To get every post: While in a newsgroup: View | Current View. Make sure Show All Messages and Group Messages By Conversation are checked. Tools | Options | Read. Uncheck: Get XXX headers at a time. Then, right click on the newsgroup in the Folder Tree | Properties | Local File | Reset. Switch to another folder and then back and all available messages will be downloaded again. Or go to Tools | Options | Maintenance | Clean Up Now and choose the group, or server at the top and then Reset. It would be a good idea to compact your folders when you're done. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. My personal preference is to disregard synchronizing and rather have OE check for news when it checks for mail. Tools | Accounts | News. Check: " Include this account...........". -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "sheana" <sheana@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:56523F34-9CA9-4EB9-9AE5-C13EC1288181@microsoft.com... >I finally took everyone's advice and visited Google Groups to search for my > archived postings.
