Email making Outlook Express hang

I was sent an email the other day that was copied to both my email addresses.
One opened ok the other has made Outlook express hang. Unfortuantely this is
at the top of the inbox list and is highlighted as I clicked on it to delete
it so when the programme opens I do anything with my email. It ahs an
attachment that may be the problem. It's in word. Is there anythng I can do
to delete it or, if not if I download the latest version of Internet Explorer
and then uninstall the version I have and reinstall the new one, will this
delete all emails in Outlook Express and solve the problem? I've got copes of
any mail i want to keep plus a copy of my address book on an external back up
so I don't mind wiping OE clear as long as get rid of the problem.thanks.

Re: Email making Outlook Express hang

Go to your accounts' webmail pages and delete the message in question from
the inbox there.

Open OE in the identity that is not affected and File | Work Offline. Switch
to the problem identity. Can you delete it now?

Re: Email making Outlook Express hang

It's not avaiable in the webmail any more I'm afraid as it has already been
downloaded. I was hoping to do just that but there's nothing in the inbox
other than what has come in today.
I also can't change identities as OE is totally frozen from the minute it's
opened.
If I uninstall and then re-install Internet Explorer, will this wipe all
existing emails from OE? If so, I'm happy to do that if necessary. Would I
have to download explorer and save it to the desktop first so I can run it
later as presumably if I don't then I will have no browser to be able to
access the download site with or is there a default browser with Windows or
something that will allow me internet access? I'm afriad it's a bit new to me.
Thanks so much for your help.

No change I'm afraid. it opens but won't respond. I just get the "hour glass"
icon instead of the cursor to show it's hung.

Re: Email making Outlook Express hang

OK. Since you say you have backups of all the mail you need, is wiping out
the entire Inbox feasible? Do you know the location of the message store for
the problem identity? It should be something like this:

C:\Documents and Settings\Your User Name\Local Settings\Application
Data\Identities\{Long string of letters and numbers}\Microsoft\Outlook
Express.

In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default
marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable
Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options
Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View.

With OE closed, (no brainer), delete the Inbox.dbx file. When you open OE, a
new and completely empty Inbox will be waiting for you.

Re: Email making Outlook Express hang

Thank you so much. Problem sorted! Show Hidden folders option was already
checked but the folder was still hidden so I decided to be brave, selected it
individually and it worked. Many, many thanks for saving my sanity!
