Protecting user email privacy

Hi,
I'm using the OE newsreader, and when I post a new question, the "From"
field is the name of the particular newsgroup I'm posting to, in this
instance, microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general.

However, If I try to reply to a posting, OE automatically puts in my
private email address. Is there a way around this? Thanks in advance.

Tools | Accounts | News | Properties | General. Change your real address to
a munged one like Sheana@nospam.invalid. Don't do this for mail, just for
news.

I also just looked at your message headers. You are running a very old and
less secure version of Outlook Express. You are about four years behind with
your updates. Please visit Windows Updates ASAP.

Re: Protecting user email privacy

Are you using Reply Group?
What you are describing sounds like you are using Reply which starts an
email message reply to the newsgroup poster, not a newsgroup reply.

Ron, you're exactly right...I should have chosen the "reply to group".

Re: Protecting user email privacy

When using Reply (vs Reply Group), OE should be prepopulating the FROM line
with the email address you have as your default for the newsserver (not OE).
In your case, it's sheana@discussions.microsoft.com which isn't a valid
address in the first place.

Re: Protecting user email privacy

I don't think that OE has worked that way for me.
When you Reply to Sender, an email composition window opens with your email
address in From.
Right now, I am using WLM and a WLM email composition window opens.
