Sending, but outbox box not clear
I have searched for details of this problem, but couldn't find it, s0 please
accept my apologies if it has already been answered. OE6 on Windows XP There are some emails in my Outbox. I click on Send/Receive, and the progress bar displays, indicating that the emails are being sent. An error message window then appears, stating that there was an error, details below, but there are no details given at all, the white box below the message is compeltely blank, and the emails remain in the outbox. Can somebody explain what is going wrong, and how I fix it? Many thanks Stephen |

Re: Sending, but outbox box not clear
They are probably sent, but remain in the Outbox. Is this the case?
If you need to save them, see if you can drag them out. Working offline and closing the Preview Pane may help. If not, say goodbye to them and do the following: Do the following for the Outbox, and if the problem persists, repeat for Sent Items after you move any messages you wish to save to a local folder you create. Tools | Options | Maintenance | Store Folder will reveal the location of your Outlook Express files. Write the location down and navigate to it in Windows Explorer or, copy and paste it into Start | Run. In WinXP, Win2K & Win2K3, the OE user files (DBX and WAB) are by default marked as hidden. To view these files in Windows Explorer, you must enable Show Hidden Files and Folders under Start | Control Panel | Folder Options Icon | View, or in Windows Explorer | Tools | Folder Options | View. With OE closed, find the DBX file for the folder in question {Outbox.dbx} and delete it. A new one will be created automatically when you open OE. General precautions for Outlook Express: Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Stephen Ibbs" <stephen@ibbs.org.uk> wrote in message news:uVghaYo6IHA.2220@TK2MSFTNGP06.phx.gbl... >I have searched for details of this problem, but couldn't find it, s0 >please accept my apologies if it has already been answered. > > OE6 on Windows XP > > There are some emails in my Outbox. Re: Sending, but outbox box not clear
Fantastic reply - many thanks Bruce, and I will try this tomorrow when I get
onto the errant computer. My archive folder is 100s of MB because it has so many emails with attachments. Is there a way (preferably simple) to delete all attachments from emails. I will then follow your advice and move the emails (preferably now contaiing only text) to user-defined folders. Re: Sending, but outbox box not clear
FWIW, you can have as many folders as you want, but just keep each one not
much more than 100MB. Backing up regularly is a good idea too, if you don't already do it. This freeware tool backs up everything in OE in seconds. Disregard what is written in red. Re: Sending, but outbox box not clear
Just a follow up to say I followed all the steps and everything is now
functioning with one minor query. Working offline and compacting the folders the routine went almost through to the end, but reported an error with folders.dbx - unfortunately I can't now remember the error. Re: Sending, but outbox box not clear
The compacting hung on Folders.dbx? XP wit Service Pack 2? Restart the
computer and before you do anything else, open OE and try to compact again. Any better? If not, look in the message store and tell us the size of Folders.dbx. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Stephen Ibbs" <stephen@ibbs.org.uk> wrote in message news:eSITuA76IHA.4468@TK2MSFTNGP02.phx.gbl... > Just a follow up to say I followed all the steps and everything is now > functioning with one minor query. > > Working offline and compacting the folders the routine went almost through > to the end, but reported an error with folders.dbx - unfortunately I can't > now remember the error. > > Sincerely > > Stephen > > "Bruce Hagen" <Nospam@mymail.invalid> wrote in message > news:eESmfXq6IHA.1468@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >> FWIW, you can have as many folders as you want, but just keep each one >> not much more than 100MB. >> >> Backing up regularly is a good idea too, if you don't already do it. >> >> This freeware tool backs up everything in OE in seconds.
