Identifying Identities
In folder "\Local Settings\Applications Data\Identities" I have
thirteen folders each called by a different long number. One of these folders was my current store location, which I have now moved to another location (its subfolder "\Microsoft\Outlook Express" is now empty). Two of the remaining folders also have empty subfolders. Some of the remaining ten non-empty folders are identities I was using prior to a recent crash. Is there any way I can link OE into each of these non-empty locations in turn to see what they are? Is there any way I can reinstate those identities I was using prior to the crash? (The links provided by PA Bear in a recent conversation look like they're written for people who already understand the system -- i.e. not written for a dimwit like me.) |

Re: Identifying Identities
Perhaps the easiest way would be to create a new identity in OE. Then
do a File, Import, Messages, OE6, and select from Store Folder (rather than the default from Identity) and select one of the the folders. Then see what gets imported. -- Mike - http://pages.prodigy.net/michael_santovec/techhelp.htm "andy-k" <spam.free@last> wrote in message news:EyKgk.30105$i37.21482@newsfe10.ams2... > In folder "\Local Settings\Applications Data\Identities" I have > thirteen folders each called by a different long number. > > One of these folders was my current store location, which I have now > moved to another location (its subfolder "\Microsoft\Outlook Express" > is now empty). > > Two of the remaining folders also have empty subfolders. > > Some of the remaining ten non-empty folders are identities I was using > prior to a recent crash. > > Is there any way I can link OE into each of these non-empty locations > in turn to see what they are? > > Is there any way I can reinstate those identities I was using prior to > the > crash? > > (The links provided by PA Bear in a recent conversation look like > they're written for people who already understand the system > -- i.e. not written for a dimwit like me.) > |

Re: Identifying Identities
1. OE File | Identities | Manage identities: How many identities are listed
here and what are their names? What is the name of your current identity (i.e., the one that's highlighted by default)? 2a. START | RUN | (type in) WAB /A (note the space) | OK 2b. View | Folders and groups (select/check) 2c. Look in the left-hand pane: Without expanding any of the folders, how many are listed and what are their names (e.g., Andy's Contacts)? 2d. Now select (highlight) each folder in turn: Do any of them display any contacts in the right-hand pane? If so, which foldername(s)? ======================= Technical references: About OE Files & Settings http://www.insideoe.com/files/index.htm About OE Registry Keys http://www.insideoe.com/files/regkeys.htm -- ~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) MS MVP-IE, Mail, Security, Windows Desktop Experience - since 2002 AumHa VSOP & Admin http://aumha.net DTS-L http://dts-l.net/ andy-k wrote: > In folder "\Local Settings\Applications Data\Identities" I have > thirteen folders each called by a different long number. > > Is there any way I can reinstate those identities I was using prior to the > crash? > > (The links provided by PA Bear in a recent conversation look like > they're written for people who already understand the system > -- i.e. not written for a dimwit like me.) |

Re: Identifying Identities
Thanks for your feedback. If you want to leave those empty or
no-longer-valid folders on your system, so be it. andy-k wrote: > Thanks PA -- I think I have it sorted now. > > > "PA Bear [MS MVP]" <PABearMVP@gmail.com> wrote in message > news:ecixo%23p6IHA.4112@TK2MSFTNGP05.phx.gbl... >> 1. Re: Identifying Identities
Don't worry about it, Andy.
