Phantom news messages

I subscribed to Microsoft.public.dotnet.languages.vb and downloaded all of
the messages. I then marked all messages as read, which seemed Ok. Now, when
I mark all messages as read, the news group is flagged as having 20 unread
messages (name of the group is in bold and has (20) on the end) but the list
of messages contains:

There are no items in this view. Some items may be hidden because a view
is applied.

The only view I have is to "hide read messages". I have no blocked senders
or other news rules, so cannot see why the group shows there are 20 unread
messages.

If I right click on the group and "catchup" the group shows as clear (no
longer bold). However, if I click on another group and click back, I get the
20 unread messages indication again.

Anyone know what might cause this and how to fix it please. I've had it with
a couple of other news groups, but it seems to go away after a while. This
one is hanging around though.

Using Windows/XP Sp3 with OE 6.00.2900.5512

Thanks
Steve

These "ghost messages" are a known OE bug. It will never be fixed.

Spooky!

Guess I'll stop trying to deal with them then. Thanks for the prompt reply.
