Unable to Access Links in Emails and IM's
I have suddenly started having trouble with accessing links in all of my
emails in Outlook Express and also when instant messaging. If you click on the link, nothing happens. It shows the link address at the bottom of the page but never goes there. I haven't changed anything in my settings, so I have no idea what has happened. Can anyone give me some idea of what to do? Thank you for your time. |

Re: Unable to Access Links in Emails and IM's
Hyperlinks do not work in Outlook Express after you upgrade to Internet
Explorer 7: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929867 If still no joy, for IE6 & IE7: From: http://www.fjsmjs.com/OE/nolinks.htm If nothing happens when you click a link: Open Windows Explorer, or the Control Panel. Go to Tools | Folder Options | File Types. Scroll down to [NONE] URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol (NOT URL:Internet Shortcut) and select it. Click Edit or Advanced, depending on your Windows version. Select 'open'. Click Edit. "Application used to perform this action" should read: "C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\iexplore.exe" -nohome (Check the path to iexplore.exe to make sure that is correct and use the double quotes.) DDE should be checked and in the boxes below it you should have: #1: "%1",,-1,0,,,, #2 IExplore #3 (blank) #4 WWW_OpenURL URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol with Privacy should be the same. Sometimes it is necessary to uncheck Use DDE. -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "Cheri :o)" <Cherio@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:FAC702FC-39F3-4851-96C5-C0BC6E601601@microsoft.com... >I have suddenly started having trouble with accessing links in all of my > emails in Outlook Express and also when instant messaging. Re: Unable to Access Links in Emails and IM's
Bruce,
Thank you so much for your time. I tried the instructions you gave me and got to the point where I was searching for the [NONE} URL:HyperText Transfer Protocol". I have looked through the whole list in teh Registered File Types and there is NO such item on my computer. I've tried more than once to make sure I wasn't missing it, but I do not have a [NONE] URL:HyperText Transfre Protocol item. Therefore, I can't get past that step in the directions. Could it possible be called something else? I'm stuck and missing a lot of email links due to this problem. Thank you, again, for your time and help. What is your Windows version? It may differ, but on my XP/SP3 it is the 12th
item in the list. It must be there. Are you sure you are looking in the right place? It doesn't matter how you get there, but try the Win+E key. Then click on Tools | Folder Options | File Types. Bruce,
My version of Windows is XP/SP3. The 12th item on my list is [NONE] URL: File Transfer Protocol. That's it...in all of the [NONE] items there is NOT one that says HyperText Transfer Protocol.
