OE6. Is it possible to find email message by its headers?

Hi.
I use Win XP SP3 and Outlook Express 6 as email client. Sometimes it
can be useful to check have I ever received e-mails from the same
network. OE6 only gives the opportunity to check email address (Edit --
> Find --> Message), but no ways to check originated IP's. Therefore I

had to manually open coresponding *.dbx file to search it with text or
hex editor. Is there more easy way to find all the messages with
particular IP (or URI) in headers?

You could export them all (to *.eml files) and then search those files.

Interesting method. Thank you. But it doesn't work with large folders.
This NG consists of 1650 messages at the server I use. When I tried to
convert all of them into eml format (i.e. select all, forward and save
as) than OE6 crashed. (I sent error report to MS).

Nevetheless my method works. For instance, we'd like to find all the
messages sent here via cia.com . Just open
microsoft.public.outlookexpress.general.dbx file with notepad and
search for "cia.com". It's very simple.

I'm looking for more simple way. The only thing I need -- is to
improve (correct?) the native search in OE (edit-->find) to allow it
to search all message sources including headers. Any ideas?

Not with MS Outlook Express.

This newsgroup consists of news messages, not E-mails.
Therefore you should be exporting them as *.nws files.

And also sometimes flawed. You may be lucky that what you are searcing
for is always in short records which occur at the start of the message.

Good luck

Thank you very much for the discussion. I've just found required
option in Thunderbird (it understands "Received", "X-Originated-IP"
etc. in find attributes). Unfortunately I can't switch to this mail
client right now, as I accustomed to use OE. As a stopgap measure I
imported all emails from OE to Thanderbird and use it for search
purposes.
