starting outlook express

I am using a dial up connection. If I open outlook before I connect to
internet it simply locks up and I have to use End Now to close program. If I
open the internet connection first all is fine. I used to be able just to
click on outlook and it would open and connect to the internet(or if connect
automatic was not checked it gave me the option to connect or work of line)
Can anyone point me to the problem Tks.

Donald

Try unchecking the option to " Send and Receive Messages on Start
Up -Tools, Options, General tab.

Hope this helps.

Re: starting outlook express

Outlook (OL) and Outlook Express (OE) are *not* the same application.
Please be careful with your shorthand.

OE Tools > Options > General > Send/Receive on startup (uncheck).

Re: starting outlook express

By "Outlook" do you mean Outlook Express (OE) which is part of Internet
Explorer or Outlook97/98/2000+ which is part of Office? And which
version? (If you don't know, in your mail program select Help, About.)

Check your settings in Outlook Express at Tools, Accounts, Mail,
Properties, Connection for each mail account. You want specify the same
dial-up connection that you manually start.
