Re: lost all email in ibox even the the inbox.dbx is not deleted
OE folders have a total capacity of 2GB, but in reality, they become
corrupted long before that and most of us recommend not going much over 1MB. Close OE and open the message store. Rename the Inbox.dbx to Inboxold.dbx. Open OE and you will have a new, empty Inbox. Now, get one of these tools to retrieve the messages. I would recommend the latter. DBXtract: http://www.oehelp.com/DBXtract/Default.aspx DBXpress: {much faster for large files} http://www.oehelp.com/DBXpress/Default.aspx To avoid this in the future: Do not archive mail in default OE folders. They will eventually become corrupt. Create your own user defined folders for storing mail and move your mail to them. Empty Deleted Items folder regularly. Keep user created folders under 100MB, and Default folders as empty as is feasible. After you are done, follow up by compacting your folders manually while working *offline* and do it often. Click on Outlook Express at the top of the folder tree so no folders are open. Then: File | Work Offline (or double click Working Online in the Status Bar). File | Folder | Compact all folders. Don't touch anything until the compacting is completed. Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs and account setting changes. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see: http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 In Tools | Options | Maintenance: Uncheck Compact messages in background and leave it unchecked. {N/A if running XP/SP2}. And backup often. Backup & Restore: http://www.insideoutlookexpress.com/backup/ This is a great two click program: Outlook Express Quick Backup (OEQB) http://www.oehelp.com/OEBackup/Default.aspx -- Bruce Hagen MS-MVP Outlook Express Imperial Beach, CA "----nikos 4000----" <nikos4000@discussions.microsoft.com> wrote in message news:9BD5EA5D-67E9-449D-B2E2-54C35750D3A7@microsoft.com... > helo > i use WINXP pro sp2 and O.E. 6 > i use outlook express > all my foldres in O.E are ok except inbox. > the inbox folder is empty even the > C:\Documents and Settings\....\Local Settings\Application > Data\Identities\{2F8B308C-0756-40DA-9794-AA60E5638C5C}\Microsoft\Outlook > Express \inbox.dbx is arround 3Gb > i made the following > 1) i try to import the inbox.dbx but even the procedure looks that works > none mail is imported. > 2)i try to make a new identidy but the result is the same.
