Please re-visit Bruce's Instructions for restoring folders ...

I have it printed out, but there's a glitch somewhere in the instructions. 3
people have attempted it and the problem seems to lie with "lick on the dbx
file for the missing folder... and drag it to the Desktop." Then, the next
paragraph states "...create a folder with the "exact" same name as the bak
file you want to restore but without..." that's understood, however from
there on the instructions relate to bak files ... why did we move the dbx
files from the message store to the Desk Top then? We delete them per the
instructions, at the end. It's just not working. help...

Still no folders.

Re: Please re-visit Bruce's Instructions for restoring folders ...

There are two scenarios.

1: You have a bak file in the message store already.
2: You have a bak file in the Recycle Bin and need to restore it to the
message store, simply by clicking Restore.

The reason you must move the dbx file out of the message store is because
you can't rename a bak file to dbx if one of the same name already exists in
the store folder.

I could simply say to delete the dbx file and then rename the bak file, but
for safety's sake, I would rather see you move it elsewhere temporarily.
That way if trying to restore the bak file fails, you still have a chance to
run DBXpress on the dbx file to retrieve the messages.

Hope this is clearer.

Ok - I still cannot get any folders back into my present OE - I have no idea
why they disappeared either -but so did all the Message Rules (red X'd out),
and Newsgroups.

This is terrible.

Re: Please re-visit Bruce's Instructions for restoring folders ...

Let's say that you have a Abc.bak file.
Open OE.
Create a folder called Abc.
Access the folder.
Close OE.
Open the OE Store folder.
Remove Abc.dbx from the Store folder.
Put Abc.bak into the Store folder.
Rename Abc.bak to Abc.dbx.
Open OE.

Re: Please re-visit Bruce's Instructions for restoring folders ...

With all due respect to you and Bruce, may I double-check something, please?

re: Remove Abc.dbx from the Store folder.
Put Abc.bak into the Store folder.
Rename Abc.bak to Abc.dbx.
Open OE.

Questions:

When Abc.dbx is removed, is that where Bruce wrote to drag it to the Desk
Top?

Then, where does the Abc.bak originate, to put "into the Store folder?"

In order to "Rename Abc.bak to Abc.dbx" - where can that extension be
altered?

I hope you understand my need for clarification - my folders are not going
back into OE - I can 'see' them, but frankly, not certain what OE popped up
with (sans all most recent folders on 1-15-08) is what was there prior to
the Compacting (off-line, uninterrupted, etc). There are missing files with
that same date on them, and previous dates, but at this point, I'm certain
of nothing.

Yes.

If there is no ABC.bak file in the store folder now, then it should be in
the Recycle Bin, (Not Deleted Items), as this problem happened during
compacting, and OE automatically creates the bak backup file in the Recycle
bin when you compact. Right click on the ABC.bak file and then click
Restore. It will now be in the message store.

In the message store. When you get the ABC.bak in the message store, right
click on it and Rename. Change it from ABC.bak to ABC.dbx.

Note that if the ABC folder is missing from the OE folder tree, before you
do any of the, create a folder named ABC in OE and open it. Without doing
anything else, close OE and then start the restore process.
