Outlook 2003 fails to terminate when closed
MS Outlook continues running as a process when terminated (as shown by Task
Manager); it disappears from the Applications tab but remains under the Processes tab. If Outlook is reloaded, two copies appear under Processes (albeit the second with only small memory usage) but nothing under Applications. If the two copies are killed (End Process in Task Manager) and Outlook is then reloaded again, I'm informed that Outlook failed to load properly and do I want it loading in Safe Mode now. Outlook loads successfully in either mode, but still leaves a copy of itself behind under Processes when terminated. This is all running under Windows XP Pro SP3 and Office SP3 and appears to have started after switching from BT Broadband to O2 Broadband and Norton Internet Security to McAfee. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers. David |

On all the .pst files I could find (archives and backups). It said it had found and fixed errors, but has had no effect on this apparent problem with Outlook. Thanks. David |

I've removed "Itunes Helper" from Com Add-ins and unset On-line Content in Service Options and Outlook now terminates normally. I suppose I should now go back and reset On-line Content to see which was causing the problem. OK. Just reset On-line Content and Outlook still terminates normally so must have been the "Itunes Helper"! Many thanks. David |

Re: Outlook 2003 fails to terminate when closed
I'm having the same problem that has been described (at least the symptoms
are the same), have tried all of the suggested solutions, but the problem still exists. There are no COM add-ins and the Add-in Mgr only shows Exchange Extensions. Re: Outlook 2003 fails to terminate when closed
Thanks -- in stepping through the troubleshooting, I have learned that it
goes beyond Outlook. I opened and closed Word several times on a hunch and found that those processes weren't terminating either. If you have any suggestions, let me know -- in the meantime, I'll search around for related bug postings.
