Contacts Problem
Hi -
I'm having a problem using my contacts correctly in outlook. On the Contacts screen they are all listed but if I create a new email and click the icon to add people nobody is listed. From the drop down it looks like there are two address books - one called Contacts and one called Personal Address Book. If I choose the Contacts option it says it cannot be opened or I do not have access to it. Does anyone have a suggetion as to what I might look for to correct this? Thanks! |

Get rid of the Personal Address Book service. It hasn't been used in 10 years. Fix the definition of the Outlook Address Book service in your mail profile. You don't state your Outlook version, so I can't be any more exact than that. Use the Mail applet in Control Panel for the task. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

Re: Contacts Problem
I am having a similar problem. I have a customer who ran detect and repair
and now has 2 sets of identical folders in Outlook 2003. While he can see his 700 contacts, and doesn't mind the 2nd set so much (yet) he can't choose email addresses using the Contacts option it says it cannot be opened or he does not have access to it. Does Brians fix work in 2003? If so, how do you fix the definition of the Outlook Address Book service in the mail profile. If so, it's a sign of a damaged mail profile. This might help: http://www.outlook-tips.net/howto/ghosts.htm > While he can see his 700 contacts, and doesn't mind the 2nd set so > much (yet) he can't choose email addresses using the Contacts option > it says it cannot be opened or he does not have access to it. Tools>E-mail Accounts>View or change existing directories or address books>Next. Select Outlook Address Book. Click Change. Remove the bogus reference there. Stop and restart Outlook to apply the changes. -- Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook] |

Re: Contacts Problem
I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that I am using Outlook 2003. I went into
the Mail applet from the control panel as you suggested but can't quite figure out what I am supposed to be looking for? Can you tell me a little more about what to check? Thanks again!
