Hope they fix it in WM7? ;-)

My Wizard has had that issue in both WM5 and WM6. Too bad- I was hoping
6.1 would improve it.

I have no experience with later versions, but in WM2003, simply closing an
applications screen does not shut down the programs, so they come back
quicker, and in the state you left them, when you start the program up
again. I suspect it is the same way in WM6. In 2003, you can browse
through SETTINGS to RUNNING PROGRAMS, and kill them there. There are
utilities available that make programs easier to kill.

Re: HTC touch

Even stopping running programs (settings/system tab/memory/running programs
tab/stop) does not necessarily free up ram. When I first got my HTC 6800
with WM6 I had 22mb of 47 free with no running programs, now I have 9.

I made the assumption that if the OP has the software and ability to check
the size of services.exe, he's familiar with task management. On my device
the services.exe, filesys.exe and gwes.exe tasks swell to several MB over
time. They're at 4.9, 3.4 and 2.8 right now, leaving me at only 10MB of
RAM with "nothing" running vs. over 20MB after a reboot.

You are correct that default "X" behavior is the same in WM6 as always, but
many devices include OEM-supplied task managers right in ROM these days.

You could post a message to the XDA-Devs Touch forums asking for help.

Microsoft decreed that users should not be allowed to close a Pocket
PC /Windows Mobile program. And they enforce that decree by making it
the default behavior and not providing a logo (Certified for Windows
Mobile). Thus, the "X" box usually hides, but does not close, a
program, and any company that wants to sell their program(s) retail
bows to Microsoft's demands (would you buy a program from a store if
the box didn't have the logo?). (Yes, I know about "violations" by
many programs, including Microsoft's, and no, I can't defend the
decree.)

I inferred that the original poster _had_ used
Settings->System->Memory to really close the programs, but was still
having problems.
