google maps mobile

I have a toshiba e800 pocketpc2003se pda and was running goggle maps just
fine up to about a week ago - since then it's been not loading with the
message

"This program requires a data connection. Please contact your carrier or
visit www.google.com/gmm/configure.html on your computer for more info.

(Error: wininetHttpError [0 12150]}"

nothing's changed in the configuration of the PDA nor the wireless network

uninstalled, reinstalled - uninstalled, reinstalled - same thing

hit retry (1kb..2kb..) "This program requires a data connection.."
hit retry (3kb..4kb..) "This program requires a data connection.."
hit retry (5kb..6kb..) "This program requires a data connection.."

18k - 20 k

etc

ugh..

GPS signal pops up happily but as for loading the maps

I grow impatient

anyone else experiencing such issues?

karl

In my opinion you should concentrate on this message that there seems to be
no data connection to the Internet (while there seems to be one to your GPS
device).

Are you still able to access the Internet from the E800?
If yes, then there might have been a problem at Google's end of the
connection (but I've just successfully connected).
If not, then there might be a wide range of causes, including setting the
device to "flight mode" or otherwise disabling the connection.

(I don't have an E800, so I don't know its features.)

absolutely - everything else works fine - internet connection is 100%

I neglected to mention I *can* connect when hotsynched via USB so the PC/PDA
internet connection is fine, google appears fine and feeds data, every other
data connection wirelessly is fine when not hot sync'd but google :/

By XP driver, if you mean something to connect your Vario to a Win XP
machine, that comes in the form of a software package (and I use those words
reluctantly) called Activesync. This is avail from Microsofts website. If
this isn't what you mean, what do you want the driver to do or fix?

followup - I uninstalled after reading of many reported failings with the
current version - 2.1.0.10

I've now got an earlier version installed and it works beautifully

The version I installed some weeks ago says it is 2.0.1.17. I'm not saying
it's better than the one you had but I haven't had any problems with it
under WM5.0.

I'm afraid I don't remember where I got it exactly but it would have been an
official Google address not some hacker location. But note I have a WM5.0
non-phone. I find two files on my systems: one called
GoogleMaps_compressed.CAB at 519Kb dated 9 March and other GoogleMaps.CAB at
1Mb dated 15 January. I don't think I downloaded them that long ago so I
presume the dates are Google's.
