PDA Connection to the network/internet problem

I'm not sure that I've discussed this but I have issues with applications on the
PDA connecting to their respective servers for updates. They include AvantGo,
Worldmate Pro, an RSS downloader and now Citytime.

If I have the connections default to connect to "My ISP" it tries to dial a
number, but as the PDA isn't a phone this isn't going to work.

If I have it default to connect to "My Work network" the applications time out
saying that they can't connect to the server.

However, I found out that if I turn on wireless networking and get the PDA to
connect to my LAN (which is also connected to the 'net) then they all work fine
(provided that the connection manager defaults to "connect to work network" on
the PDA).

It may be an ActiveSync problem, of which I seem to be having a few of, lately.
Or it may be something in the PocketPC itself.

I might uninstall and reinstall ActiveSync. If I do that will it wreck any synch
info that the PDA and Outlook and other PC based apps have with the PDA? Or am I
better of simply reinstalling ActiveSync over the existing installation?

I won't try this til I get more advice on this.

In ActiveSync, is the passthrough setting set to Internet?

What does using the "Automatic" accomplish?

It is supposed to intelligently figure out if it needs Internet
or Work, and generally does so. Force it to INTERNET or MY ISP
though for testing. You may have to undock/dock for the change to
take effect.

A good question. Answer: I don't know. I can't find the setting for it.

In Active Sync click on "File" and then "Connection Settings"

Look at: "This Computer Is Connected To:"

The choices should be:

Automatic/Internet/Work

It's set to automatic. In any case, after reinstalling ActiveSync it's all
working fine, now.
