2210 backlight brightness control?
I set my iPAQ 2210 so that it would "Turn off backlight if device is
not used for" 1 min. But it only *dims* it, not turn it off completely. If that is correct behaviour, why? I don't need to be able to see anything until I tap the screen or use a key, when Full brightness will be restored anyway. Is there no way to turn it off altogether, so that battery life is maximised? -- Terry, East Grinstead, UK |

Re: 2210 backlight brightness control?
I believe that what you are describing is a condition in which the backlight
/is/ turned off, but the screen content is still visible in reflected light. My impression is that the backlight is the big power hog, so what you are describing is the desired effect. Perhaps some of the more technical group members could comment on how much power is used just to keep the screen "populated" as compared to having the backlight on- my guess is that the power drain is negligible. If you desire a completely blank screen (the same condition as when you push the 'power' button in the upper right corner), you can change settings/power to turn off the device if it is not used for more than x minutes... but you'll have to test to see if that interferes with a program you are running (mp3 player, etc.) or if your active programs (mp3 player, etc) make the device think it is active, preventing a powerdown. The application is that I'm using the PPC with a map program (Memory-Map) and my GPS unit. So most of the time the PPC is in my pocket, but obviously cannot be switched off because it's keeping track of my position. That's via Bluetooth, (the only time I've ever used the facility), which I suppose itself has high consumption ;-( -- Terry, East Grinstead, UK |
