Cell Phone MMC asking for password

Hi there.

I do not know, this is the right Group to post this Q, But I don't find any
other, so here I am. Hope that some one has the answer. If this is not the
right group, please tell me where to post this Q.

I am using a "Nokia 6230i" with a "Kingston 512Mb MMC". every thing was fine
until today. I dont know how but suddenly I found it Renamed to "Memory
Card", and when I tried to open it, phone asked for the password. I don't
remember when did I set the password, but it never asked for it before. and
now it ask and I dont remember it. No details are available exept the name
"memory Card". NO size, No free memory, No used memory. In the memory status
it shows the word (unformat.)with brackets. clicking it results in a password
box asking for password.

Many times I've restarted my cell and reseated the card but in vain.
also when I tried to connect my mobile to my PC, in data storage mode,it
asked for password. even Nokia PC suit's file manager does not show the
memory card.

Note: If some one thinks that because of reseating the card it is asking for
the password, please correct that previously I have done it many times and it
never happend.also my othere MMC is detected by the phone correctly and
working properly.

TIA to every one who could help.

Re: Cell Phone MMC asking for password

right... wrong group... suggest a google for nokia forum

One suggestion I would make is to put the card in a pc card reader and
see if it is still blocked... never heard of a card having a password...
sounds like something the phone or encryption software did.

other questions would be;

did you change cards?

did you upgrade your phone's software?

put the card in a computer or other device?

when you remove the card, what's on the card (mmc or sd?)

First of all, thanks for taking interest.
I came here through MSN so didn't knew about Google forums.

sounds a good point. I'll try it as soon as I get my hands on a card
reader, OR another mobile device.

I had done it long before, when I changed my old card with this one. It's
been more than a year since, and I got no problem with this.

never!

NO.! but I connect it with my PC as a data storage device, Primarily to
copy photos
from mobile to PC. Some times I install mobile games from PC, But that
stuff is installed on to the phone memory not on the card, moreover I have
not done it in the recent past.

I'm sorry! I could not under stand this Question, would you please explain.
However I didn't remove the card when it all happened, I didn't need to
remove it, because it was working fine. When the problem occured, then I
removed and reseated the card, and also changed it temporarily with old one,
only for diagnostic purpose.

First, dedicated pc card readers are now under $10 in many places... if
you use any device that has a memory card, having one is a valuable
tool... among other things, transferring files is normally many times
faster than using a connected device.

Physically remove the card from the phone... it should have a label of
some sort which is the id info I was looking for... to clarify the mmc
vs sd card type.

In addition, it may have a "lock tab" (get a magnifying glass) ...if it
does, make sure the tab is in the unlocked position.
