Partnership problem

Having not used my ppc (HP4150) for some time decided to turn it on only
to find out that all my data had gone. Managed to load some of the
programs back on. Loaded ppc onto cradle and 'new partnership' wizard
appeared. Selected the option to use an existing partnership but a
message comes up saying 'the selected backup file was made from a
different type of mobile device'. I have another device but the device
name I've selected is definitely the correct one for this ipaq. Does
anyone have any ideas what could be going on?
3.71 active sync used

Thank you in advance

Activesync is a funny beast. If you try to reselect an existing
partnership after a hard reset, it assumes it's a new device. (Why? I
can't tell you! Probably because the device "tells" the PC it's never been
sync'd yet.)

To restore a backup to an "empty" device, DON'T create a partnership,
connect as a guest, then run the backup/restore utility and the device will
"become" it's old self again, and the partnership shouldn't need to be
recreated.

Intuitive, huh? ;-)

At this point, you've probably already messed up the old partnership trying
to repartner the post-reset 4150 with the old name, so starting from
scratch (new partnership name, sync PIM data from scratch and reinstall
programs) might be simplest.

Re: Partnership problem

You don't by chance set different localization parameters, do you? Like UK
English, different currency, I forget what all there was on 4150s. Time Zone
counts too IIRC. You can try Todd's suggestion by connecting as Guest, and
doing a restore, but there are some of those basic settings that need to
match for it to work...That's very old memory trying to work in my head
here, but I recall this from old forums.
